A man has been washed away after the boat they were travelling in capsized in the middle of Gongri River bordering Pema Gatshel and Monggar. Officials and locals are looking for his body. The incident occurred at around half past three yesterday, three kilometres upstream of Yangbari suspension bridge.
There were five people including two boatmen. They were transporting constructing materials across the river for the new bridge. The wooden motor boat was hired from Barpeta in India. Four of them could swim to safety while the man, a contractor from Paro, was washed away.
Rafting teams from royal Manas national park and river guides of Pangbang are at the scene to help look for the contractor. Officials suspect that the boat was overloaded.
The family members have been informed.
