Pema Chokorling Lhakang in Sherzong Gewog in Gelegphu was vandalised and robbed off its precious items this morning. Silver plated kapali with gold rims, silver moenphur and phurba were stolen. The Lhakhang also lost gold plated amulet with turquoise and gold plated tshebum.
One of the monks who lived alone behind the Lhakhang found the Lhakhang doors open and things strewn all over the floor when he came for morning offering.
The door of the separate apartment where rest of the monks lived was latched from outside. They said everything was normal when they came for routine check at 11 pm.
A crowbar was left behind at the scene.
Pema Chokoring Lhakhang was established in 2011 and has 30 monks. But only nine of them including two Lopens were at the lhakhang during the incident.
Police are investigating the robbery.
