Common Exams mandatory for students under Punakha

Common Exams mandatory for students under PunakhaUnlike in the past, the pre-primary to class nine students of schools under Punakha Dzongkhag now sits for common examinations. The common examination, in the past, was held only for pre-primary to class five students.

“The primary objective is to improve the quality of education. When it’s common examination both teachers and students tend to work harder,” said the Senior Dzongkhag Education Officer of Punakha, Kinley Wangchuk.

The Principal of Khuruthang Middle Secondary School, Lhaki Om, said holding common examination provides level playing field to the students. “We can actually check the quality of our students and some schools who could not do well.”

She also said this system could help them cut down expenditure and also save time. “It reduces a lot of burden for the teachers because teachers need time to prepare questions, moderate, and model answers.”

The decision to hold common examination was made at the Punakha Dzongkhag Principals’ Conference.
