Reviving yak-rearing culture- Laya

After the Cordyceps collection was made legal in 2004, many highlanders changed professions. The once-popular yak-rearing culture among the people of Laya Gewog of Gasa started to slowly disappear since most of them found collecting Cordyceps more profitable. The shortage of fodders and rural-urban migration also forced some highlanders to stop rearing yaks. However, in recent years, this has changed because of support and continued awareness by the government on the importance of rearing yaks.
