Renovated Gasa dzong to be consecrated early next year

The consecration of the recently restored Gasa Tashithongmoen Dzong has been delayed due to the elections. The 17th-century dzong is expected to be consecrated in February next year.

Following the consecration, the dzong will be handed over to Gasa Rabdey.

The dzong renovation works, which began in 2014, was completed in June as scheduled.

The restoration works were carefully carried out without making any changes to its architectural designs.

The Project Manager, Kinlay Gyeltshen, said only the deteriorated timber and stone structures were replaced.

The Nu 110 M Gasa Dzong Conservation Project was funded by India. The Bhutanese government contributed Nu 66 M for construction of the new Drasha.

Over 170 workers laboured for four long years to restore the dzong to its former glory.
