The Bangladeshi community in Thimphu observed their country’s National Mourning Day today.
August 15 is observed as the National Mourning Day in Bangladesh to mark the assassination of its founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On August 15, 1975, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated along with most of his family members.
This year marks the 43rd anniversary of the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the serving Bangladeshi Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina.
The day is a public holiday in Bangladesh.
Poem recitation, songs and prayers were held to pay tribute to the late leader at the event in Thimphu.
