DPT says PDP government was a big failure

The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) says the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) government was a big failure, with more than sixty pledges unfulfilled.

At a press conference yesterday, the opposition says PDP has not been able to achieve 100 per cent employment.

“They were also not able to meet the target of sending 30,000 youths to work abroad and could neither provide jobs in the country. The situation has worsened today. Sometimes, the government asks the youth to take up momo selling jobs and other times they say there are more jobs than the number of youths seeking employment,” Dorji Wangdi, a member of the opposition, said.

The opposition also says the government has been dishonest with the people and that corruption has increased during their term in office.

“We hear lots of corruption cases in the tendering of farm roads and GC roads. Also, we hear allegations of corruption in the  construction industry including construction of road, hospitals and schools,” Dorji Wangdi said.

“Anti-Corruption Commission also said there is high prevalence of favoritism and nepotism, especially in the public service area.”

The opposition says the gap between the rich and the poor has also widened. The government has not been able to start any major industry or any new thromdes.

The party also pointed out government’s wasteful expenditure incurred on establishing central schools and colleges in the east, buying power tillers and setting up farm shops among others.

The opposition party also pointed out the discontinuation of few reports including the labour force survey report.
