The Monggar District Court sentenced two women in their thirties, to one year imprisonment for the illegal possession of tobacco products. As the women have already spent some time in prison, both now have to serve a little over 11 months.
They can, however, pay thrim thue in lieu of their prison term.
The Police found 700 sticks of cigarettes on one woman and 49 packets of chewing tobacco on the other.
The two women in their statement said the tobacco products were for personal consumption, but they did not have any tax receipts.
