Basketball teams of two universities in the US are in the country. They are here to help promote and develop the game. While here, the teams will teach basic skills and give coaching to the youth across the country.

Yesterday, the team from the Vanguard University played a friendly match with the would-be men’s national team at the Thimphu Primary School basketball court. The coaches of the University also showed some techniques and skills to the players.

“Bhutanese players, very athletic people, very very gifted but again you could be very talented and very athletic but if you don’t have a proper coaching and the structure, this is real key knowledge,” says Tom Bohnert, a coach.

Another Coach, Boomer Roberts, of the Vanguard University said the potential of Bhutanese team is very high. “They play very hard, number one which is the most key to success, they play together very well, they share the ball, move the ball and they are soaking up everything.”

Soon the team will be visiting other Dzongkhags as well.
