Phuentshogpelri Gewog (Gomtu) in Samtse reported two COVID-19 positive cases from the community today. As per the health ministry’s records, the gewog last detected a case from the community a month ago.

One of the positive patients is a primary contact of an earlier case. The person had completed quarantine on Tuesday. The other patient is a frontline worker on duty at the isolation facility.

Following the detection of the cases, a 24-hour complete lockdown was announced in the gewog. However, it was lifted hours later after completing the contact tracing. Some 20 primary contacts have been traced so far.

For now, the District COVID-19 Task Force has restricted the movement of people and vehicles in and out of the gewog. Similarly, Gomtu and Dumshigang have been put under strict surveillance.
