Two suspects, Yogesh Lama and Salman, both in their mid-20s and residents of Jaigaon, India, who were arrested for the murder of two Bhutanese women have confessed to the crime.

The victims, 22-year-old woman from Loggchina in Chhukha and a 26-year-old woman from Chhuzaygang in Sarpang, were found brutally murdered on the morning of June 12 in Bara Mechay Basti in Jaigaon.

According to sources, Jaigaon police had detained a few suspects for enquiry on the same day the bodies of the victims were found. The news of two suspects being arrested also went viral on social media. However, BBS has learnt that the initial two suspects were detained for questioning based on an eye witness report who alleged that they were seen quarrelling with the victims a day before the incident. However, the confessions did not come from them.

The two suspects, Yogesh Lama and Salman, confessed to the crime only yesterday.

According to sources, the suspects and the victims were under the influence of psychotropic substances (N10 tablets). One of the victims was also raped. The suspects murdered the victims when the allegedly raped victim threatened that she will report it to police.

The Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) in Phuntshogling said that they are working closely with Jaigaon police and a detailed report will come later.

According to RBP, only the post mortem report will be able to ascertain rape. The post mortem reports are yet to come from Alipurduar hospital in India.

The dead bodies of the victims were handed over to their family members. The victims had stayed back in Jaigaon after the border closure.

The two suspects will be produced to the Alipurduar court.
