Pool vehicle drivers will not lose their jobs- Lyonpo Namgay DorjiFinance Minister, Namgay Dorji said the drivers of 289 government’s pool vehicles will not lose their jobs. The ministry is in the process of withdrawing pool vehicles the government have disbursed to its different agencies.

Starting January this year, the Department of National Properties under the finance ministry has recalled 128 pool vehicles.Pool vehicle drivers will not lose their jobs- Lyonpo Namgay Dorji--

“We have been procuring new vehicles for time-bound projects and for that we need drivers,” said Lyonpo Namgay Dorji.

The minister said the drivers will be employed with the projects.

Lyonpo said if the projects cannot absorb all the drivers, the ministry, along with the Royal Civil Service Commission, will come up a solution to put it up to the government.

The other option, the minister said, is to send the drivers to the gewogs. “We are going to procure utility vehicles for the local leaders as the government had pledged and we could transfer the drivers to gewogs to take up the jobs.”

Lyonpo said all the gewogs will receive a utility vehicle each once the Local Government Elections are over, this year.

The government had decided to withdraw pool vehicles which are 15 years old from January, this year.

The move is also to encourage private sectors to come up with a hiring system.
