The Eastern COVID-19 Task Force and the Dungkhag COVID-19 Task Force will be conducting a second round of strategised mass screening in Jomotshangkha dungkhag starting tomorrow. More than 5,000 residents will be screened in the coming six days. The Dungkhag is under complete lockdown since May 21, and including Khashateng chiwog under Merag, the dungkhag reported 152 positive cases so far.

During the first mass screening, about 1,700 residents were tested.

Including Jomotshangkha town all the residents of 69 villages of Lauri, Serthig and Langchenphu Gewogs will be tested for COVID-19. According to officials, the second round of mass screening will help detect any residual virus before unlocking the community.

Each team will be sent to all the three gewogs and Jomotshangkha town to collect samples. About 25 officials will be deployed for the second round of mass screening. Currently, a COVID-19 hospital has been set up in Jomotshangkha Dungkhag with specialists and the necessary equipment required for treating COVID patients.

And about 80 COVID-19 patients are in three new COVID-19 isolation centres within the Dungkhag.
