Second Bhutanese in New York tests positive for COVID-19

Another Bhutanese living in New York has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The patient is a middle-aged man who has been working there for several years.

In a telephone interview with BBS, Foreign Minister Dr Tandi Dorji said that the COVID-19 Bhutanese patient is currently being treated at one of the hospitals in New York. Lyonpo said that the patient is in stable condition and does not have any pre-existing health condition. The patient’s relatives with whom he was sharing accommodation have been asked to self-quarantine and avoid meeting others.

The Foreign Ministry has also informed Bhutan’s Permanent Mission to the UN to facilitate in providing adequate healthcare service to the patient.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister told the local media at the press briefing today that the first Bhutanese who contracted coronavirus in New York is also in stable condition.

The US has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world with figure crossing 140,000 as of today. New York is the epicenter of the pandemic in the US.

The exact number of Bhutanese living in New York is not known.
