School Autonomy: A new education policy

The Education Ministry’s new policy of granting autonomy to government schools will come into effect from this year’s academic session. This was discussed at the Dzongkhag Education Officer’s conference which ended on Friday evening. By granting autonomy to schools, the Education Ministry wants to achieve quality education.

During the conference they discussed on Teacher HR policy 2014 and School feeding programme among others. Under the Teacher HR policy 2014, the prime areas of focus are career track of teachers, recruitment, deployment, professional development and performance management.

On school feeding programme, the issue on the lack of nutritious food provided in schools was discussed. On the panel was the Director of Department of School Education under education ministry, Karma Yeshey, Chhukha Dzongkhag’s Education Officer, Kinzang Dendup, and the Principal of Punakha Higher Secondary School Yesh B. Ghaley.
