With the encouragement of the district livestock sector, commercial fish farming is becoming an important source of income for farmers in Samtse.
Many farmers have started their own fishery pond after attending free trainings organised by the livestock Sector.
Kencho, a Choekhorling farmer, has been running a fish farm for two years.
It’s a very profitable business for me. The government helped me start the business. All I had to do was buy the feed.”
The district livestock sector is helping build the fishery ponds, providing all the required material.
According to Thonkay Drukpa, the livestock officer, the climatic conditions are ideal for fish farming.
“The fish grow very fast because the place is hot and there is plenty of rainfall.”
