Safety aspects of to-be-built underpasses raisedMany people are raising concern over the safety aspects of the pedestrian underpasses the Thimphu Thromde plans to build along the Thimphu-Babesa expressway. The Thromde will spend about Nu.10 M on each underpass.

People say the present pedestrian underpasses have become more like a garbage disposal site and that it is also unsafe for people to use them.

Thimphu City’s Mayor, Kinlay Dorjee said they are doing everything to make sure the new underpasses do not end up like the old ones.

He said the new underpasses will have proper drainage system with lights and enough space for street vendors to sell their goods.

The Construction Development Corporation will be building the underpasses. The underpasses will be built with a concept of Crime Prevention through Environmental Designs.
