A recently established business, financed by the Business Opportunity and Information Centre, is looking to reduce dependence on wood by using unplasticised polyvinyl chloride, to construct doors and windows in buildings.
Today, an average five-storied building uses around three truckloads of timber.
Hemanta Kumar Monger who works at the business said material is imported from China and the framing is done in Bhutan.
The Business has received support from the national environment commission as it reduces dependence on wood. The material can also be recycled after 6o years. Windows built with unplasticised polyvinyl chloride is also more energy efficient, the owner of the business said.
The new material has already been used in few buildings around Thimphu.
