The Royal Bhutan Army’s (RBA) prosecutor has requested the High Court to uphold the military court’s judgment on the DeSuung fund embezzlement case.

The RBA prosecutor said the military court’s judgment was passed following due process as per the Civil and Criminal Procedure Code of Bhutan.

The submission was made today at the opening hearing for one of the cases involving two former armed force personnel.

Unhappy with the military court’s judgment, the two accused had appealed to the High Court.

One of them, a former RBA officer, is accused of embezzling close to Nu 900,000 from the DeSuung fund.

Of the total amount, the former officer stands accused of having embezzled more than Nu 400,000 from the fund for the 5th batch of DeSuung Training Porgramme and close to Nu 460,000 during the 10th batch.

The other accused is a former army personnel and is said to have embezzled Nu 100,000.

There are a total of 15 cases involving 40 people, including five officers, nine non-commissioned officers and 16 shopkeepers. The military court found them guilty in December last year.

The High Court will conduct the next hearing on Friday.
