TokayGeckocaseForwarded-court-Gelegphu A public trial was held in Gelegphu to determine if the Tshachu’s caretaker Harka Bahadur Subba had brought more Tokay Gecko than he claims. The forest officials have accused the caretaker of bringing more than one lizard from Samdrupcholing in Samdrup Jongkhar.

The accused has already paid a fine of Nu.100,000 to the Forest Range Office on January 8 this year for capturing and possessing the gecko.

The forest officials presented an audio recording as the evidence to prove that Harka had brought more than one Tokay Gecko. Harka Bahadur Subba denied the allegation and said it is not his voice in the recordings.

The court has asked both the defendant and plaintiff to produce their witnesses during next trial on January 22. The gecko was seized in October last year from the caretaker’s house.
