The Election Commission of Bhutan conducted bye-elections for the posts of a Gup, a Mangmi and three Tshogpas in Gasa, Paro, Trashigang and Wangdue Phodrang today. While the ECB will announce the official results tomorrow, we have the provisional results of the bye-elections’ outcome.
In Gasa, the election was held for the vacant post of Baychhu-Tshedpgang’s Chiwog Tshogpa of Khatoed Gewog. The former Tshogpa had resigned and left overseas for studies.
59-year-old Samten, who was the lone candidate secured 41 Yes votes and 2 No votes. The Chiwog has 81 eligible registered voters
Meanwhile, in Paro, the election was held to choose a new Tshogpa for Hoongrelkha-Jangsarbu Chiwog of Hoonggrel Gewog. The former Tsogpa was terminated after being convicted in a legal case recently.
34-year-old Gembo from Hoongrelkha village secured 61 votes. He got 52 EVM and nine postal votes.
The other candidate, 35-year-old Sonam Seldon from Jangmeyna village got 31 votes which includes 29 EVM and 2 postal votes. There are 163 total registered voters in the Chiwog.
In Trashigang, three candidates ran for the post of Bidoong Gewog’s Mangmi. The post became vacant after the former Mangmi resigned to pursue studies.
421 people voted for 54-year-old Tenzin Chogyel from Tshekhar village. His votes include 216 EVM and 205 postal votes.
36-year-old Pema Yangki from Bargoen village secured 330 votes. She received 151 EVM votes and 179 postal votes.
And, 51-year-old Sonam Phuntsho from Ristang Peg village has got a total of 310 which includes 151 EVM votes and 159 votes through postal ballots.
Bidoong Gewog has a total of 2,890 eligible voters.
Likewise, in Radhi Gewog, the bye-election was held for the post of Tongling Pam’s Chiwog Tshogpa.
The lone candidate, 60-year-old Sherub Jamtsho secured 241 Yes votes and 108 No votes. The chiwog has a total of 991 eligible voters.
Meanwhile, in Wangdue Phodrang, the bye-election was held for the post of Nahi Gup. The former Gup had resigned in April this year to pursue studies abroad.
54-year-old Kinley Gyeltshen from Uesagom-Thabji secured 333 votes. He got 272 EVM and 61 postal votes.
36-year-old Sonam Tobgay from Halued-Uesawom secured 230. He got 201 EVM and 29 postal votes.
38-year-old Chado Namgyel from Khujula-Lamizi Chiwog secured 46 votes. He got 36 EVM and 10 postal votes. Nahi Gewog has 824 registered eligible voters.
