Polakha farmers’ group receives machine to package cherry pepper pickles

The Palokha Sonam Yargay Kuenphen, a farmers’ group of Ruebisa Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang received induction bottle sealing machine and an electric blower to package their products. The Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector handed over the machines to the 16-member group yesterday.

The farmers’ group is known for producing cherry pepper pickle popularly known as Dalley. But the poor packaging of their pickles has always been an issue.

“We are grateful to the government for providing us with sealing machine. I am optimistic that the members of the group will work even harder to produce more cherry pepper pickles,” Tashi Darjay, the chairman of the group, said.

“We received feedback saying our products are not packaged properly. But now after receiving the machines, I am confident that it will solve all our problems,” Sonam Dhendup, a member of the group, said.

A production house, which was constructed with support from the Dzongkhag, was also inaugurated.

“With the machines and production house, it will help the group in marketing their cherry pepper pickles,” Sonam Zangpo, the Dzongkhag Agriculture Officer, said.

The group produces 1,500 bottles of pickles in a season. The farmers’ group, which was started in 2005, now has a saving of around Nu 3 M.
