The people of Tareythang Gewog in Gelephu are seeking admission for their class six passed children at Norbuling Central School.

They reasoned the arrangement would be convenient for both students and their parents.

The issue was raised during the recent visit of their Member of Parliament, the Information and Communications Minister Karma Donnen Wangdi.

People of Tareythang said, at the moment, after getting through class six, students of Taraythang Primary School have to continue their education at Umling Lower Secondary School.

But they often miss their classes during summer due to the swollen Langkhar River in between Taraythang and Umling.

“Crossing the river is risky for both parents and their children. We would like to request to consider our children for enrolment at Norbuling Central School after passing class six from here,” requested one of the parents, Dorji Wangdi.

Others echoed his views.

“Going to school in groups is better. But we have limited number of students from here studying in the 7th standard. They have to cross Langkhar River near the international border. It is risky. In fact, they have to cross two rivers to get to school. In summer, we the parents, accompany our children to school daily,” added another parent, Dhaman Gurung.

During the meeting, an official from the Information and Communications ministry said the issue is not within the jurisdiction of the ministry.

However, he assured to reach the matter to the education ministry.
