The People’s Democratic Party said it will develop Samtse into a special economic hub to further boost economic growth. The party also announced hospital upgradation, a domestic airport and an export processing zone for Samtse among others. PDP President Tshering Tobgay unveiled the pledges while meeting the people of Phuentshogpelri-Samtse Constituency in Samtse on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering in Samtse, Tshering Tobgay shared the party’s vision to propel Samtse to a special economic hub in the country.

He said the party will help in the extensive development of Samtse town, ensuring that it receives the same facilities and budgets as other Thromdes in other districts.

Likewise, he also shared PDP’s plans to transform Samtse Hospital into a regional referral hospital similar to Gelephu and Monggar hospitals.

The president also announced the party’s intention to establish an Export Processing Zone in Samtse. He said this will not only attract domestic investors but also foreign investors, contributing to both local and national economic growth.

He also pledged to construct a Southern Highway between Daifam in Samdrup Jongkhar to Norgaygang and Tendu Gewogs in Samtse.

Likewise, the president also revealed plans to construct five new domestic airports if the party gets elected. While the locations for these airports have yet to be decided, he said that Samtse deserves to have one.

Additionally, he assured residents that the party would improve the Samtse-Haa road, introducing a new trade route via Samtse, and promote tourism in the district.
