Some victims and family members of the recent mishap during a fire incident in Paro said precaution by fire-fighters could have prevented the accident.
On Friday, fire engine rammed into five people who were helping battle a house fire in Lango, Paro.
“Fire fighters are highly trained. They are trained to be cautious while operating during such emergencies,” said one of the injured, 62-year-old, Jamba Tsheten.
He said they are civilians and they panic when disasters occur. “The fire fighters failed to take precaution.”
Pratap Subba, 19, who was also at the scene, fractured both the legs when the vehicle hit him. He is being treated at the National Referral Hospital in Thimphu.
His father said his only hope is to make sure his son gets the needed treatment. “The incident has affected my son’s mobility.”
The parents of others who were injured say they will wait for their children to recover to decide on the further course of action.
The police, on the other hand, said proper procedures were followed.
Major Ugyen Wangdi of the Royal Bhutan Police said the incident occurred due to a mechanical failure.
“It is the first ever incident that has happened with the Royal Bhutan Police. Our drivers and operators are well trained and were operating according to the working procedures.”
The case is still being investigated.
Meanwhile, except for the 19-year-old, the rest have been discharged.
