Only 50 percent of motorists get their vehicle emission testedA little over 50 percent of the 60,000 motorists in the country, who got their documents renewed, turned up for their vehicle emission test.

Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) mandates emission test for every vehicle during annual documents renewal.

Yangki Auto Emission’s Proprietor, Ugyen Dorji said the poor response is due to the lack of strict implementation of rules and regulations.

The Road Safety and Transport Authority said, in some cases, when vehicles were sent off for the test, auto emission test centres were found closed. They renewed the documents provided the test was done at a later date.

Over 21,000 vehicles renewed its documents without emission test from March till June

RSTA also said they cannot rely entirely on the figures maintained by the two auto emission centres.

RSTA will soon launch a system to authenticate the number of vehicles coming for emission test. It will also ensure vehicles undergo emission test before its documents are renewed.

Also, to monitor emission test strictly, RSTA, through bidding, authorised only one auto emission test centre in the country in March this year.

The centre is yet to start its operation.
