One of the remote gewogs in Samtse, is now accessible with the completion of the first cutting of a fifteen-kilometer farm road. Farmers are already using the road, even before the road is officially opened to traffic.
The road has reduced the walking distance between Tendu and Norgaygang gewog by almost three hours.
One of the main produce of the gewog is cardamom. In the absence of a motor-able road, farmers until now have been selling cardamom to Indian traders at a cheaper rate along the border area in Bindu. BBS correspondent in Samtse said, farmers in the gewog are optimistic of cardamom business from now on.
At the same time, farmers are also worried that the farm road might remain blocked during monsoon due landslides. The Gewog Administrative Officer said people are so eager to use the road. People are already using it right after the first cutting is completed.
The 15 kilometre farm road is being constructed at a cost of Nu. 7.4 million with funds from the royal government. Norbgaygang, one of the remote gewogs in Samtse is located some fifteen kilometers from Tendu town.
