MilkProcessingClosedThe Milk Processing Unit in Thangrey under Patshaling Gewog in Tsirang has been non-operational ever since it was constructed in 2008.

“The absence of basic amenities like electricity and water were to blame for the unit being unproductive,” said the Betney Gonor Gongphel Gongphel Tshogpa, Ganesh Sunar. He said the unit now has water but there still is not electricity.

He said they are also not able to handle the equipment as they were not trained on how to use them. Also, the members of the Tshogpa haven’t been able to meet the criteria for milk production as they do not have good cattle breed.

The Dzongkhag Livestock Officer, Dorji Wangchuk, said the unit will soon become operational as it has now been connected with electricity.

Dorji Wangchuk said the members of the Tshogpa said the members have also promised to meet the unit’s requirement by purchasing high breed cattle.

The Milk Processing Unit was funded by the European Union and the Government of India.
