Shumar Chiwog in Pema Gatshel finally gets lhakhang

It’s been almost three decades since the old lhakhang of Shumar Chiwog in Pema Gatshel was dismantled, leaving the chiwog without a place to conduct religious rituals.

The villagers took turns to host community rituals in their homes all these years. The task has been anything but easy.

“We have annual and monthly tshechus and in the absence of a lhakhang, it was hard to conduct them,” Karma Choki, the Tshogpa of Nangkor-Shumar Chiwog, said.

Today, they are relieved because the chiwog finally has a new lhakhang.

Villagers said it feels as if a huge weight has been lifted off their shoulders.

“We are very happy to have the new temple. “It will be highly convenient now to hold tshechus and community rituals,” Tshogpa Karm Choki said.

The Lhakhang was built at a cost of over Nu 2 m. It was funded by the Dzongkhag.
