New Wangdue hospital nearing completion

With almost 70 per cent of the works over already, the construction of the 40-bedded new district hospital of Wangdue Phodrang is expected to be ready by the year end.

The hospital was actually due for completion two years ago, but budget constraint and changes in architectural designs delayed the project.

Officials at the site are looking at completing the remaining works by June.

Once complete, the hospital will solve the problem of space congestion faced by the existing hospital in Bajo.

Doctor Dorji Tshering says the number of patients, both inpatient and outpatient, has been growing by the year, exerting pressure on the limited infrastructure at the old hospital.

The new hospital is expected to be equipped with state of the art facilities.

The construction of the hospital is funded by Puntshangchhu Hydroelectric Project Authority (PHPA). It has provided Nu 257 m for the construction of hospital buildings and staff quarters.

The PHPA has also granted medical equipment worth Nu 15 m to the Wangdue Phodrang District Hospital.
