BFF signs one-year agreement with Nestlé India

Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) signed a one-year agreement with Nestlé India to develop grassroots football in the country.

The Nu 2m agreement is targeting to involve about 20,000 students across the country in various inter-school and inter-district football tournaments.

The Bhutan MILO Cup 2018 kicked off at the Changlimithang, today. The BFF marked the start of Bhutan MILO Cup 2018 with students from Thimphu engaging in football activities. The programme will reach the rest of the districts in the coming months.

Students of different age groups, both male and female, will be involved in tournaments across the country which is spread throughout the year. The district champions will meet in the finals, which will be played at Gelegphu in January, next year.

“We start with Under 13 championship, then with under 15 championship and with under 17 championship. So there are a series of football tournaments in 20 districts in the grassroots, for both male and female,” told Phuntsho Wangdi, the Media Marketing of BFF to BBS News.

The federation has been conducting grassroots programme since 2010, and has a youth academy at Changjiji in Thimphu. The academy grooms young and potential players to represent the national team.
