National Search and Rescue Team launched

The Department of Disaster Management launched National Search and Rescue Team (NSRT) today. The team was formed to respond effectively and efficiently during disasters. It has 20 members from different ministries and agencies.

This multi-sectoral group has been formed looking at the capacities in search and rescue operations by different agencies which could be put into use during emergency situations.

Speaking at the launch, the Director General of the Department of Disaster Management, Namgay Wangchuk, said they would be deputed to the 20 Dzongkhags and the Gewogs to train the Gewog search and rescue team and also they would be acting as a master trainer. “They will have this master expertise in tackling various hazards in various techniques and skills.Also if they are any major disaster they will be deployed as a rapid response force to save the life.”

The team members were also provided with equipment necessary for search and rescue operations.
