Wild elephants killed three claves and a cow yesterday night at Gaden village under Umling Gewog in Sarpang. The elephants also destroyed banana and areca nut trees.
The villagers spotted four elephants with a calf in the village last night.
Local residents suspect the incident to have occurred after the elephants failed to rescue its calf which had fallen into the cemented cow dung pit.
Umling Gup said the elephants had left the spot in the morning leaving behind the calf in the pit. With the help of forest officials, the villagers rescued the elephant calf and released into the forest.
