Explosion in bus, no casualties reported

A minor explosion was reported inside a public transport bus traveling from Thimphu to Gelegphu today.

Police said the blast was caused by a refrigerant gas, CFC22 that the bus was carrying. The incident took place around 1:30 in the afternoon.

The explosion damaged two windows behind the driver’s seat. No casualties were reported.

RSTA officials said public transport vehicles are not allowed to carry petroleum and inflammable products.

The bus driver said he had no idea the content of the package he received for delivery from Dolma Enterprise this morning was a refrigerant gas.

Officials have seized the driver’s license for negligence. Police have also asked Dolma Enterprise, a retailer that deals with the sale of electronic appliances, in Thimphu, to report to the Tsirang Police Division tomorrow.
