MoIC Minister, D.N. Dhungyel

Information and communications minister, D.N. Dhungyel said the government has not decided anything on the railway links. Lyonpo’s statement comes after a few Indian newspapers claimed that Indian railway is now ready to provide railway links to Bhutan.

The Indian newspaper, quoting their Minister of State for Railways had said the Indian Railway is set to soon resume its move to provide a railway link to Bhutan and studies have already been conducted.

Lyonpo  D.N. Dhungyel said the railway to link the two countries is an important mandate of the ministry but no major decision has been made till date.

Bhutan and India signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2005 to link the two countries by railway. Since then, discussions have been going on between the two countries but with no major breakthrough.
