Bangladesh’s President speaks in Bhutanese parliamentThe President of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid thanked His Majesty The King, the government and the people of Bhutan for showing solidarity and expressing sorrows in the wake of terrorist attack in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka.

He was speaking in the Parliament this morning.

This is the President’s first visit to Bhutan. Abdul Hamid, 72, is accompanied by his wife, Rashida Khanam and his family members.

He became the 22nd President of Bangladesh in 2013.

He also served as the speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh.

The president is a recipient of one of the highest awards of Bangladesh, the Independence Award. Welcoming the president to the parliament session, the speaker expressed condolences following Dhaka’s café attack on Friday.

The Bangladeshi President thanked His Majesty The King for the gesture in according a state welcome to him. The President said the relationship between Bangladesh and Bhutan is multi-faceted, encompassing a whole range of areas including hydropower, connectivity, trade and commerce, education and tourism.

President Abdul Hamid and delegation left the country, this afternoon.

Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay went to see the president off at the Paro International Airport.

Bhutan is the first country to recognise Bangladesh as an independent country in 1971. The president was on a four-day visit to Bhutan.
