Import of cauliflower and beans from India has been temporarily banned after high content of pesticides were found in them.

Lyonpo, while speaking to the journalists; during ‘Meet the Press’, today, also said except for Asparagus, vegetables grown in Bhutan are not organic.

He said Bhutanese farmers use chemicals only to control the outbreak of pests.

Bhutan Agriculture Food and Regulatory Authority is randomly testing for chemical content in vegetables and grains grown in the country

Import of chemicals is also being monitored.

Meanwhile, the ministry will accelerate the winter vegetables production to meet the needs.

Locally-produced vegetables are available in the market for nine months a year.
