Sipsu Dungkhag Court in Samtse sentenced Norgaygang Gup to one-year compoundable imprisonment for official misconduct. Gup Shankar Gurung was charged for issuing “To Whom So Ever It May Concern” letter to an Indian man.
The man had needed the details of a Bhutanese with whom he has a land dispute in Darjeeling, India. The Bhutanese had left the country in 1991.
Through the details, the Indian man wanted to prove that his opponent is not of an Indian origin.
The Registration and Census Guidelines prohibits issuing such letters to Non-Bhutanese.
Following the investigation, the Office of the Attorney General filed the case to the court, last month.
