Rajiv Pradhan wins Business Idea CompetitionRajiv Pradhan, 25, won the first prize for his business idea, Aquaphonic System, in the Business Idea Competition, which was held at Thimphu TechPark, today. Aquaphonic system, according to Rajiv, is farming fish and vegetables in a shared space at the same time.

He said he came up with the idea during his travel to his village. “I saw villagers buying vegetables even though they owned farmland.”

Rajiv was awarded a laptop for his innovation. He will also be allowed a working space and internet access for six months at Bhutan Innovation and Technology Centre in Thimphu to implement his idea.

Sangay Thinley, 26, won the second prize for production of vacuum fried fruits and vegetable chips. The third prize went to Sonam Yuden, 24 for nursing centre for toddler.

In another category, for youth below the age of 25, Kuenzang Wangchuk, 24, took the first slot for online bus booking service. He said people with internet access can purchase tickets online from anywhere. “It will cut costs and save time for both service provider and commuters.”

Kuenzang said he worked on the idea for the last three years. “My hard work has paid off”. He was awarded Samsung Tab3 and like Rajiv, as access to office space and internet connectivity for six months.

The runners up for this category were Garab Dorji, 20, for zero energy water pump and Sangay Dorji, 22, for MEE Meengaay Pizza.

Ministry of Labour and Human Resources and Bhutan Innovation and Technology Centre had jointly organised the 4th annual nationwide Business Idea Competition, 2015.

The winners were also awarded certificates and prizes.
