Leaked letter on ENERTIA misleading public: PMO

The government says the letter, which talks about the ENERTIA Foundation of India, was leaked to the media. It says the letter has created misinformation and is misleading the public.

The press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) says the content and language of the letter is that of the Secretary. It says the economic affairs’ Secretary had written the letter on October 24. It was then emailed to the Minister, says the release, under whose signature it was supposed to be submitted to the Prime Minister

A meeting had ensued subsequently, between the Minister and Secretary.

The release says two issues were discussed; allegations made by KB Wakhley against the Secretary and the allegations of corruption made by ENERTIA, an Indian publication.

“The Secretary had suggested, during the meeting that on KB Wakhley’s allegation the matter should be brought up to the RCSC. On ENERTIA’s allegations, the matter should be brought up to the government of India for their intervention.”

The Minister is said to have advised that the RCSC could be consulted for their intervention since KB Wakhley was a Bhutanese citizen and the matter was internal, according to the release.

“However, with regard to the allegations of ENERTIA and the need to seek GOI’s intervention, the Secretary was instructed to keep the matter ‘on hold’ because it involved a foreign entity…”

The Minister did not find it necessary to attend to the letter of October 24, says the release. “It was not even closely read, and certainly not signed and submitted to the Prime Minister.”
