Huts dismantled following Supreme Court’s instruction

HutsDismantled-TabaFour huts were dismantled in Taba under Thimphu following an instruction from the Supreme Court, today.

The huts, located below the community police centre in Taba, belonged to Tashi. However, Tashi had lost the land on which the huts were built on to a businessman after he had agreed to be a guarantor to a friend. The case was then forwarded to the court. Tashi had lost the case.

Ugyen, who was speaking on behalf of Tashi, said Tashi was cheated and was made a guarantor. He also said the huts belonged to Tashi for 35 years and that they will not give up that easily.

However, at the losing end are the eight tenants. A few of them say it would be difficult to find accommodation in Thimphu within their means. Most of the tenants come from low income group.

They had even pleaded with the Thromde Officials, executing the Supreme Court’s instruction, to spare the huts.

The Thromde Officials say they had to abide by the order.

In the meantime, some tenants have managed to find temporary accommodation while some are still wandering what step to take next.
