PDP supporters alleges their coordinator of bribery and deception

Two women supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Jomtsang, Udzorong Gewog, Trashigang lodged a complaint against PDP gewog coordinator of Kanglung for bribing and deceiving them.

According to the two women, the PDP coordinator distributed party supporters’ cards to the people on July 7 and asked them to vote for PDP. They say the coordinator had promised to pay them Nu. 3,000 right after they win the election and Nu. 1,500 per month for the next five years. Four people, according to the women, received Nu. 1,000 each right after the election.

“Its not that we want the money. We supported the party but after winning the election, they said we did not vote and it has been found through the computer. Some supporters have received money right after the election. So we wanted to know if it is legal to give money or not,” said one of them.

The PDP coordinator however denied the allegation saying it’s baseless. He said he neither promised to give money nor paid money to anyone after the election.

The dzongkhag will be discussing the issues with the Election Commission of Bhutan on further course of action.
