Women’s cricket team opens ACC Premier Cup with a win over Maldives

The women’s cricket team opened its ACC Women’s Premier Cup, played in Malaysia, with a thumping 94-run victory over the Maldives. Batting first, captain Dechen Wangmo, with her 36-run knock, led Bhutan to a comfortable total of 124 in 20 overs. Defending the total, Bhutanese bowlers gave no room for the Maldives to score any runs before dismissing the island nation out for a paltry 30 runs. This resounding win serves as a much-needed confidence booster for the Bhutanese women as they prepare to face off against two other formidable opponents in the group: Nepal and Hong Kong.

16 nations are taking part in the tournament with the two finalists earning qualification for the Women’s Asia Cup later this year.
