Coinciding with World AIDS Day, Lhak-Sam along with the World Health Organization and Chithuen Phendhey Association commemorated those who have lost their lives to the virus at Geynekha in Thimphu today. Lhak-Sam is a community-based organisation with a network of people living with HIV and AIDS. The community is still facing social stigma and discrimination.

The Health Ministry’s report shows that from January to June this year, 26 new HIV cases were detected. Of the 900 HIV cases detected since the diagnosis of the first case in 1993, 178 of them have died from the disease until last year.
