Korea Radio Promotion Association handed about USD 500,000 worth of broadcast equipment to BBS

Officials from the Korea Radio Promotion Association officially handed about USD 500,000 worth of equipment to the Bhutan Broadcasting Service today. The equipment including outdoor broadcasting equipment and an FM transmitter will be used for the upcoming parliamentary elections for better picture and reception qualities for television and radio respectively.

The current outdoor broadcasting equipment that BBS has are old and in standard definition format. But the new outdoor broadcasting equipment which includes nine cameras will be in a high-definition format.

“We asked for the equipment basically for the election next year. The outdoor broadcasting equipment is used for the debates. When our current affairs producers go to different parts of the country to cover the live debates between and among the politicians, and the aspiring MP candidates, we will be using outdoor broadcasting equipment to broadcast the debates live. Of course, we will also be using the same equipment to stream them live on social media,” said Kaka Tshering, the CEO of BBS.

“Through these years of support and great efforts from both the countries towards the ODA project, it has helped improve the quality of broadcasting services at BBS and we wish it gets better and better and the Bhutanese will be able to enjoy high-quality broadcasting programs soon,” said Jung Su Song, the Vice President of Korea Radio Promotion Association.

For now, the FM transmitters have been installed in 12 stations to improve the reception and the quality of the signal in these areas. BBS engineers are in the process of installing four more stations. The installation will be completed by December this year.
