Eight arrested for gambling in Wangdue Phodrang

Wangdue Phodrang police arrested eight people including a woman yesterday evening from Bajo town for alleged involvement in gambling. The police arrested them following a tip-off.

Sources say the suspects were playing card and dice games on mobile phones in one of the hotels. However, the suspects have been released on sureties and will be prosecuted.

According to the Penal Code of Bhutan, gambling is a petty misdemeanour, with a prison term ranging from one month to one year if convicted.
