A new city bus service route

The Road Safety and Transport Authority along with Bhutan Post have come up with a new city bus service route network plan. The Ministry of Information and Communication had directed the two agencies to come with a new route as the earlier route was found to be confusing and inappropriate.

The new route map will cover more location as compared to the earlier one. It has eight routes and buses travelling to each route will be identified by numbers. Each bus will be numbered.

According to the Deputy Chief Transport Officer, Karma Tshering, they want to make city bus more accessible and services more comfortable. “With earlier routes, commuters had to change buses to reach a certain location,” he said.

Bus stops which are close by will be removed and some new bus stops will be added to necessary places. The frequency of the city buses will be after every 10 to 15 minutes.

Presently there are 29 city buses in Thimphu. Bhutan Post will be adding 15 more buses in August this year.

Bhutan Post’s Research Planning and Marketing Division’s Manager, Leki Dorji, said the new route map will most probably come into effect by the end of this week. However, the new route map will be flexible as of now. After implementing it for a few months, it will be further improved, as per the feedback from the people.
