Gelephu’s FIFA Goal Project II delayed

The FIFA Goal Project II, in Gelephu, which will cater to about 50 footballers, has been delayed. The project is worth over Nu.10 million. Started in 2008, the project was supposed to be completed and handed over to the Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) by now.

The project was completed in December last year. But, before the contractor could hand over the project to the BFF, it was vandalised. The electrical wirings were torn apart and window panes broken. To repair the damages, the contractor said he will incur an extra cost of Nu.200,000.

Moreover, the BFF did not take over the project then. The Gelephu Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) focal person, Ashok, said the additional works such as, constructing gate and flood protection walls were not complete.

Also, one of the two football grounds is wet and marshy indicating the presence of underground water. “We have dug a hole in the marshy area and filled it with stones and gravels so that water can seep out into the newly constructed canals,” said Ashok.

The contractor will hand over the project to the BFF by the end of this month. The BFF has been allotted 35 acres of land for the project in Setikharey, of which about 18 acres has been used.
