Archer hit by arrow succumbs to injuries

A 40-year-old archer, who was hit by an arrow, succumbed to injuries at the national referral hospital in Thimphu around 3 am yesterday. The incident happened at Kabesa archery range on Saturday at around 5:30 pm.

Sources said they were playing practice match when the incident occurred.  The archer was walking towards the other end of the range after his turn when one of the players accidentally released the arrow, piercing the right side of the deceased back. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and the arrow removed.

The doctor who carried out the surgery said it was a penetrating injury. The arrow hit the right back and entered some nine inches deep inside between the 7th and the 8th ribs near the spine. He said the major blood vessels in the lungs were damaged which lead to uncontrollable bleeding.

The deceased is survived by his wife and three children.
