Assessment for Classes PP-IX and classes XI to begin from July

The Education Minister Jai Bir Rai during the press brief today shared that beginning next month, students studying in classes PP to IX and XI will be assessed for promotion to the next higher classes based on the adapted curriculum prescribed by the Royal Education Council.

The Minister also shared that there will be no formal examinations for classes PP to IX and XI. However, if schools reopen for classes VII, VIII, IX, and XI depending on the pandemic situation, they will follow the prioritized curriculum and there will be examinations as well.

Until then, students will continue to follow the adapted curriculum and lessons delivered through BBS, Google classrooms, and other social media platforms.

However, for students in classes PP to VI, there will be no face-to-face instructions for this academic year.

“They will be given assignments, homework, objective questions,  and follow up questions on BBS TV lessons and Google classroom among others. And they will be assessed based on this. We have informed our teachers that it’s imperative they keep record and report of what they are doing for the assessment,” said the education minister.

Lyonpo added that students following the adapted curriculum will not be ranked in their progress report like in the past. ” They will either be promoted or not promoted.”

Education Minister also shared that students studying in classes X and XII will use the prioritized curriculum starting next month which comprises of 65-70 % of the actual curriculum content calculated based on the remaining instructional time left for this academic year.

Meanwhile, the education ministry in its notification today shared that Non-Formal Education and Community Learning Centres will also open beginning next month and continue to follow their adapted lessons. However, ECCD centres will continue to remain closed and children’s meaningful engagement will be continued through social media platform coordinated by the concerned facilitators.
